In this special edition of MAJR News, we wanted to highlight content beyond the paywall to tell readers about a NFT project and Play-to-Earn (P2E) game, Monster Champions. The project is still in its early days, but special because it’s focused on making the user experience better than other crypto games. They are doing this by moving the parts of the experience off-chain and allowing more non-crypto natives an opportunity to play. P2E crypto projects are becoming very popular, which makes sense given massive $200 billion global video game market.

What is Monster Champions?
Monster Champions is a blockchain Japanese-style TCG (Trading Card Game) built on the Polygon Network.
Players collect monsters as they embark on a journey to explore, fight, and trade while generating earnings along the way. Monster Champions is free to play and does not require a wallet, meaning users can play on-chain or off-chain.
The perfect opportunity for non-NFT users to join the up and coming space.
Prioritizing the User Experience
Jumping into NFT-based games may seem tedious to some, as wallets are complex and the technology must first be learned. Monster Champions is prioritizing the user experience while implementing the blockchain technology to reward players for their time and money devoted to the game.
Currently, many blockchain gaming projects require users to hold wallets or NFTs. Monster Champions takes place off-chain, allowing players to sign up for free with a username and password.
All Monsters are acquired off-chain, which gives the player the choice to mint as an NFT or leave it un-minted. Every un-minted Monster will become locked and require a “Golden Key” to mint in the future. Requiring the mint of Monsters would limit players unfamiliar with the blockchain or without wallets. However, un-minted Monsters will be prohibited from partaking in on-chain activities including trading, staking and digital land plays.

Game Modes
Story (PvE):
Story mode takes place in the world of Centuria. A player will journey their Champion through several different regions, tasked with various challenges to level up Monsters. This mode is the best source of experience points.
Dungeon (PvE):
Dungeons are locked until sufficient progress has been made in story mode. Completion of dungeons will grant players with first-class rewards and potential high-rarity Monsters. Although dungeons are a side-quest to the main storyline, the Monsters of this mode are vile and wicked.
Colosseum (PvP):
Who will be the Champion among all players?
Colosseum mode gives players the opportunity to battle others. A point system will determine Champion rankings and will be reset at the end of each week. There will be greater rewards for beating opponents above your rank and smaller rewards for wins against lower players.
Guilds (GvG):
Later down the road, Monster Champions will introduce guilds which allow players to form dynamic alliances and fight against fellow guilds.

In-Game Utility
Champions:
A Champion is a player’s identity which carries a randomized passive skill after being minted. While minting the NFT is up to every player, each individual has the ability to choose various cosmetic features to design their Champion.
Monsters:
Monsters can be obtained simply by journeying with your Champion. There are five Monster elements: Fire, Water, Light, Dark and Nature.
Similar to Pokemon, elements counter opposites. There are also five Monster rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare and Ultra Rare. Monsters of higher rarities have a lower supply and are more challenging to acquire.
Skills/Stats:
Each Monster has a Basic Skill and at least one Charge Skill.
Players display one skill per turn, so strategize wisely. Many skills contain secondary effects such as poison, sleep, burn and many more. Every monster utilizes base stats and a Golden Stat, providing a 0-5% boost to the list below.
HP
Attack
Defense
Crit Rate
Crit Damage
Accuracy
Resistance
Recovery
Speed
Evolutions/Cores:
Players can combine duplicate Monsters to evolve into a more powerful form. The evolution increases the Monster’s stats, speed and strength. Each Monster can only evolve one time, so if a player has extra duplicates they can sell them or turn them into Monster Cores, a way to further improve stats. To achieve maximum stats for a Monster, players will need 11 cores (copies).

Unique Ecosystem
Many money hungry individuals that take on play-to-earn games are solely interested in the earn aspect. This is why various games will fail as the play features must hold more value than the earnings.
Monster Champions ecosystem is the latter because it includes off-chain components, on-chain components, an in-house NFT Marketplace, the Polygon Network and plans for a dual-token currency system.
The game favors both individuals interested in playing and pure investors. Although Monster Champions can be sold on OpenSea, the game’s in-house NFT Marketplace will have more efficient integration regarding the trading, selling and buying of Monster Champions.
Conclusion
Monster Champions is releasing March 2022 with a Genesis Champion mint of .069 Ethereum. The game’s twitter following and discord members have both significantly increased in the past month.
Although Monster Champions is still being developed, the game gives off nostalgic Pokemon vibes with the potential to earn while playing.
The 14 member team is constantly doing giveaways and preaching the importance of being an early supporter/player, as they will be rewarded with potential airdrops in the future. Do your own research, but keep this game on your radar and check out their socials below to learn more!
